For most people in Purley and Kenley, Gatwick is the local airport: down the A23, half an hour away, and we have a separate guide to the Purley to Gatwick run. This page is about everywhere else. Long-haul flights from Heathrow, budget flights from Stansted and Luton, and business trips from London City all mean a longer journey across or around London from CR8. Our airport taxis from Purley go to all of them, at fixed fares agreed before you travel.
Purley to Heathrow
Heathrow is around 28 miles from Purley. The driver usually takes the A23 south to the M23 and M25, then goes anticlockwise round to junction 14 or 15. An alternative is cross-country through Sutton, Kingston and Twickenham. Expect 50 minutes to an hour in normal traffic, and longer in the weekday rush. A saloon starts from £79, fixed at booking.
By public transport, Heathrow is a long way from Purley: a train to East Croydon, Thameslink to Farringdon and the Elizabeth line out to the airport, around an hour and a half with two changes. With luggage, the car is much easier.
Purley to Stansted
Stansted is on the other side of London in Essex, around 60 miles away. The driver goes round the M25 clockwise, over the Dartford Crossing and up the M11. Plan on an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half. The Dartford Crossing charge is included in the fare. By rail, you would cross London to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale for the Stansted Express, which takes around two hours with changes.
Purley to Luton
Luton is about 55 miles north. The driver takes the M25 anticlockwise past Heathrow to the M1, or through London in the quieter hours. Expect an hour and ten minutes to an hour and a half. By rail, Thameslink runs from East Croydon to Luton Airport Parkway, with the DART shuttle to the terminal, which is a good option for a solo traveller.
Purley to London City
London City Airport is in the Royal Docks, about 18 miles from Purley, but the drive goes through the heart of south and east London, often via the Blackwall Tunnel. Expect 50 minutes to an hour and ten minutes depending on traffic. It is popular for business trips, and our executive saloon suits early-morning flights to European capitals.
Picking up across CR8
CR8 covers Purley town centre around the Purley Cross gyratory, Russell Hill and the roads up towards Webb Estate, Riddlesdown, Kenley, Old Coulsdon's edge and Woodcote. Some of the hillside roads around Purley and Kenley are steep and narrow, and the Webb Estate has private roads with gated entrances. Give us any gate code or access instructions when you book.
Heathrow, Stansted and Luton drop-off charges
All the London airports now charge for using their terminal forecourts. Since January 2026, Heathrow charges £7 per entry with a ten-minute limit, Stansted charges for its Express Set Down zone, and Luton has its own charges too. Each also offers a free option in a long or mid-stay car park with a shuttle bus. When you book a taxi with us, the drop-off is covered by the fixed fare, and you do not need to think about any of it.
Coming home
We collect from every London airport for the trip back to Purley, at the same fixed fares. Your driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with a name board and helps with your luggage. If you are delayed, the pickup moves automatically at no extra cost.
Choosing the right car
A saloon takes up to four passengers with two large cases. Families with holiday luggage should choose an estate or MPV. For business trips, the executive saloon, Mercedes S-Class or electric BMW i7 give a more comfortable ride.
Booking several airports in one trip
Some trips involve more than one airport: flying out of Stansted and back into Heathrow, or out of Gatwick and home through London City. You can book each leg separately at its own fixed price, and if both are booked together as a return, the second leg gets five per cent off. Give us both flight numbers and we will track each one.
Business travel from Purley
For regular business travellers, a company account gives monthly invoicing and a reference for every journey. The executive saloon is a good choice for early London City departures, and the electric BMW i7 suits companies with sustainability targets.
