Leeds is around 230 miles from Gatwick, a long drive that runs almost the whole length of the M1. Most people heading home to Yorkshire from Gatwick take the train or a connecting flight. But for families, groups, people with heavy luggage, or anyone whose plans have been disrupted, a single car from arrivals to the front door can be far easier. A taxi from Gatwick Airport to Leeds costs from £449 for a saloon, fixed at booking, for the whole car.

The route north

The driver takes the M23 north to the M25, heads clockwise or anticlockwise depending on traffic, and joins the M1 at junction 21. The M1 runs north through Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire into South Yorkshire, and on past Sheffield and Wakefield to Leeds, where it meets the M621 and the city's inner ring road.

Without stops, the drive takes four hours to four and a half hours. The M25 and the M1 around Luton and Milton Keynes are the most likely places for delays, along with the stretch between Sheffield and Leeds at peak times. Late evening departures are often quicker.

Breaks on the way

Four hours is a long time after a flight. Your driver will stop whenever you ask, and we usually suggest at least one break, often at Leicester Forest East or Woodall services on the M1. With young children or older passengers, we can plan more stops.

When the car makes sense

For one person with a small bag, the train is cheaper and often quicker: Thameslink to St Pancras, a short walk to King's Cross, and an LNER train to Leeds, around three and a half hours in total with good connections. We would not try to talk a solo traveller out of that.

The car makes sense in other situations: a family with holiday luggage, a group of four to eight where the fare divides down, a passenger who finds stations difficult, a flight that lands after the last good connection, or a disrupted journey where you just need to get home. Split across four people, the cost per person is close to a walk-up train fare, without the change in London.

Leeds and West Yorkshire

We drop off anywhere in Leeds: the city centre and the waterfront, Headingley and the universities, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Horsforth, Meanwood and the suburbs. St James's University Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary are both regular drop-offs. We also cover the rest of West Yorkshire, including Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate, Wetherby and Huddersfield. Put in the exact address and the fixed price appears straight away.

Students arriving for term

The University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University attract many international students who fly into Gatwick. At the start of term, a car with plenty of boot space saves dragging a year's luggage through London. Give us the residence name and block. For students sharing a ride, an MPV can take several with their luggage.

Choosing the right car

On a long journey, choose for comfort. A saloon suits one or two passengers. An estate or MPV gives a family room to rest, and the executive saloon or Mercedes V-Class suits business travellers who want to work or sleep.

Gatwick meet and greet and drop-off charges

A name board in the arrivals hall and live flight tracking come with every pickup. If your flight is delayed, the pickup moves at no extra cost. For your next departure, if a friend drives you to Gatwick, the forecourt drop-off zones cost £10 for ten minutes since January 2026. With us, the fare covers it.

Booking for a group

Groups are where this journey really makes sense. Four friends coming back from a stag or hen weekend abroad, a family of six back from a fortnight in the sun, a sports team returning from a tournament: one vehicle, one driver, one fixed price, and no one has to manage cases across London. An eight-seat MPV takes up to eight passengers with luggage, and an eight-seat MPV takes larger groups.

Disrupted journeys

If your flight to Leeds Bradford has been cancelled or diverted to Gatwick, or you have missed the last train north, call us. We can often arrange a car at short notice. Keep your receipt in case you can claim the cost from the airline or your travel insurance.

Overnight runs

Late-night landings are common, and the roads north are much quieter after 9pm. A late-evening departure from Gatwick often gets you to Leeds in under four hours. The fixed fare is the same at any time, and the driver will keep the car quiet if you want to sleep.
