Caterham sits on the North Downs, just inside the M25, with two distinct halves: Caterham on the Hill, around the old barracks, and Caterham Valley, around the station and the high street at the bottom. For Gatwick, it is a short hop down the A22 and M23, and we have a separate guide for Gatwick to Caterham. For Heathrow, the trip is longer: right round the south-west quarter of the M25. A taxi from Caterham CR3 to Heathrow Airport costs from £89 for a saloon, fixed at booking.

Round the M25

From Caterham, the driver joins the M25 at junction 6 at Godstone, or heads down to the M23 at junction 7, then travels anticlockwise past Reigate, Leatherhead and the A3 at Wisley to junction 14 for Terminals 2, 3 and 4, or junction 14 or 15 for Terminal 5. It is around 33 miles, nearly all motorway.

On a clear road, the trip takes 45 to 55 minutes. The M25 between junctions 8 and 14 is one of the busiest stretches of motorway in the country, and the A3 interchange at junction 10 has been a long-standing bottleneck. Weekday rush hours can push the journey past an hour and a quarter. Early morning departures are the smoothest.

Around CR3

CR3 covers both halves of Caterham, plus Whyteleafe and Warlingham's southern edge, Chaldon and Woldingham. Caterham on the Hill has the old Guards Depot site, now a residential village with its own roads, and the streets around Coulsdon Road and Banstead Road. Caterham Valley has the station, the high street and the roads climbing up both sides of the valley. Woldingham and Chaldon are more rural, with large houses on private roads and lanes.

Some roads in Caterham are very steep, particularly those climbing out of the valley, and a few are narrow. If you are on a private road in Woldingham, or a lane in Chaldon, tell us how to find you.

The rail alternative

Caterham station is at the end of a branch line from Purley. Getting to Heathrow by public transport usually means a train to East Croydon, Thameslink to Farringdon, and the Elizabeth line to the airport, which is around an hour and three quarters with two changes. For a solo traveller with light luggage, that is cheaper. With cases, children or an early long-haul flight, the M25 by car is much simpler.

Heathrow terminals

Heathrow's four terminals are in three places. Terminals 2 and 3 share the central area, Terminal 5 has its own access from the M25, and Terminal 4 is on the southern side. Tell us your terminal when you book so the driver takes the right junction.

Heathrow's drop-off charges

Since January 2026, each entry to a Heathrow terminal forecourt has cost £7, with a strict ten-minute limit enforced by cameras. An overstay or unpaid charge brings an £80 penalty, cut to £40 if paid within 14 days. If a friend drives you, the free option is the Long Stay car park, with 30 minutes free and a shuttle bus. With us, the fixed fare covers it.

Timing your pickup

As a guide, leave Caterham around three hours before a long-haul flight and two and a half hours before short-haul. On weekdays, allow extra time for the M25. When you book, we will recommend a pickup time based on your flight and terminal.

Coming home

The same fixed fare applies from Heathrow to Caterham. Your driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with a name board, and helps with your bags. Delays cost you nothing extra.

Choosing your car

A saloon takes up to four passengers with two large cases. For holiday luggage, an estate or MPV gives more room. For business travel, the executive saloon offers a quieter ride.

Business travellers and early flights

Many Caterham residents commute to the City or travel for work, and Heathrow is often the airport for business trips. For early departures, a pickup at 4am gets you round the M25 before the traffic builds. Our executive saloon gives you a quiet cabin to work or rest, and business accounts get monthly invoicing with a reference for each journey.

Families and holiday luggage

For families heading off on long-haul holidays, choose the car for the luggage: an estate takes four large cases, and an MPV takes a family of six with their bags. Child seats are free; give us the children's ages when you book.
