From the M23 to Park Lane

Gatwick to Mayfair is about 30 miles, and most of the time is spent on the last ten. The driver takes the M23 and A23 north through Purley, Croydon, Streatham and Brixton, crossing the river at Vauxhall Bridge and heading past Victoria to Hyde Park Corner and Park Lane. Depending on the traffic, an alternative is via the A3 and Wandsworth, or across Chelsea Bridge.

Allow an hour to an hour and twenty minutes. The A23 through Streatham and Brixton is slow at peak times, and central London traffic around Victoria, Hyde Park Corner and Piccadilly is unpredictable, especially on weekday afternoons and during events. Arriving in the late evening or very early morning is usually much quicker.

Arriving at the hotels

Mayfair's hotels are spread across a small area, and each has its own arrival arrangements. The Dorchester, the Grosvenor House and the hotels along Park Lane have forecourts or service roads off the main carriageway. Claridge's, the Connaught and the hotels around Brook Street and Grosvenor Square are on quieter streets, where the doormen will meet the car. Our drivers know these drop-offs and will pull up at the right door, so you are not left on the wrong side of Park Lane with your bags.

Choosing the right car

The train from Gatwick

There is a very good rail option, and it would be odd not to mention it. The Gatwick Express runs non-stop to London Victoria in about half an hour, and from Victoria the Victoria line goes to Green Park, on the edge of Mayfair, in a couple of stops. Southern and Thameslink trains are also frequent. The whole journey can take under an hour.

For a solo traveller with a small bag, that is quicker and cheaper. Where a car makes sense is with heavy luggage, after a long-haul flight, with a family, or when you simply want to be met and taken to the door. The steps at Green Park and the walk to the hotel are not much fun with large cases.

Congestion charge and central London

Mayfair is inside the central London Congestion Charge zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone. Our vehicles meet the ULEZ standards. If the Congestion Charge applies to your journey, we will confirm it when you book so there are no surprises later.
