Horsham is a historic market town in the heart of West Sussex, with a lively Carfax, the old Causeway lined with Tudor houses, and plenty of new estates on its edges. It is one of the closest towns to Gatwick, just over a dozen miles away. A taxi from Gatwick Airport to Horsham RH12 costs from £49 for a saloon, fixed at booking, and gets you home in around 20 to 25 minutes.
A quick run on the A264
From Gatwick, the driver takes the A23 south to the Crawley ring road, picks up the A264 west towards Horsham, and follows it past Faygate and Roffey into town. It is around 13 miles. For addresses on the west side of Horsham, the driver will continue round the A24 bypass to Broadbridge Heath.
In normal traffic, it takes 20 to 25 minutes. The roundabouts around Crawley and the Great Daux roundabout at the A264 and A24 junction are the usual slow points in the morning and evening rush. The school run around the Horsham schools also adds a few minutes on local roads at 8.30am and 3.30pm.
Across RH12
RH12 covers north and west Horsham: the town centre around the Carfax and West Street, North Heath, Roffey, Littlehaven, Holbrook and Warnham, plus Broadbridge Heath and the newer developments at Highwood and Kilnwood Vale. It also includes the rural parishes of Rusper, Colgate, Faygate and Slinfold. For the newer estates, some roads are not yet on every satnav, so add a nearby landmark if your house is new. For rural addresses in Rusper or Colgate, a house name and a what3words reference helps.
South Horsham, Southwater and the villages beyond are in RH13; we have a separate page for Southwater.
Train or taxi?
Horsham has a good train service to Gatwick. Southern trains on the Arun Valley line run directly from Horsham station to Gatwick Airport in around 20 minutes, and Littlehaven and Faygate stations are on the same line. For a solo traveller who lives near a station and is travelling light, the train is quick and cheap, and we would say so.
The car makes more sense when you live on the far side of town from the station, have heavy luggage or children, or are flying early before the first trains. For a family of four, the fixed fare is often close to the combined train tickets plus the taxi to and from the station.
Short trips and the minimum fare
On a short trip like this, the fixed fare covers more than just the miles. The driver still has to drive to Gatwick, park in the short-stay car park, meet you in arrivals and wait while you clear passport control and collect bags, and airport charges apply. That is why short trips have a sensible minimum fare. In return, you get a fixed price agreed before you fly, not a meter running while you wait.
Gatwick's drop-off charges
Many Horsham residents get a lift to the airport from friends or family. If that is your plan, it helps to know the rules. Since January 2026, Gatwick has charged £10 for the first ten minutes in the forecourt drop-off zones outside both terminals, then £1 a minute up to thirty minutes. Cameras log the number plate, and payment is due online by midnight the next day, or a £100 penalty follows.
The free option is the Long Stay car park, which allows drop-off for up to two hours with a shuttle bus to the terminals. Blue Badge holders are exempt. With a pre-booked taxi, our fixed fare covers it.
Meet and greet
Your driver tracks your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. They will walk you to the car in the short-stay car park and help with your bags. Delays move the pickup time automatically, at no cost to you.
Leaving Horsham for a flight
The same fixed fare applies from Horsham to Gatwick. Because you are close, you can leave relatively late: around two hours before a short-haul flight and two and a half hours before long-haul. For a 6am departure, a 4am pickup usually works well.
Business visitors to Horsham
Horsham is home to several large employers, and business visitors often stay in the town or at country hotels nearby. For company travel, our executive saloon offers a quieter ride, and business accounts get monthly invoicing with references for each journey.
