Lancing sits between Worthing and Shoreham on the West Sussex coast, with Lancing College's great chapel watching over it from the Downs and the River Adur on its eastern side. The BN15 postcode also covers Sompting and North Lancing. From Heathrow, it is around 70 miles, and with no direct public transport, the journey home can be long. A taxi from Heathrow Airport to Lancing BN15 costs from £149 for a saloon, fixed at booking.
The route to the coast
From Heathrow, the driver usually takes the M25 clockwise to junction 9 and follows the A24 south through Leatherhead, Dorking and Horsham, then the A283 through Steyning and down the Adur valley, or the A24 to Worthing and the A27 east. Another option is the M25 round to the M23 and A23, then west along the A27 from Brighton past Shoreham. The driver will choose depending on the traffic.
It is around 70 miles. Without heavy traffic, it takes an hour and twenty to thirty-five minutes. The M25 around Heathrow and Leatherhead, the A24 through Dorking, and the A27 at Shoreham and Lancing are the usual slow spots.
Around BN15
BN15 includes Lancing village and its seafront, North Lancing up the hill towards the college, Sompting and Cokeham to the west, and the business estates along the A27. Brighton City Airport, the old Shoreham Airport with its 1930s Art Deco terminal, is on the eastern edge, beside the Adur. If you are connecting to a private or light aircraft flight there, give us the hangar or terminal you need.
Lancing College is a large boarding school in its own grounds above the Adur, with many international pupils whose families fly through Heathrow. Tell us which boarding house and the driver will take you there.
Public transport from Heathrow to Lancing
The usual rail route takes you into London, by the tube or the Elizabeth line, and then a Southern train from Victoria to Lancing, with a change at Haywards Heath or Brighton on some services. Alternatively, the RailAir coach to Woking, then trains south and along the coast. Either way, expect around two and a half hours. National Express coaches serve Brighton and Worthing from the airports, but timings vary.
For one person with light luggage and a flexible day, those are cheaper options. For families, older travellers, students with a year's luggage, or late arrivals, the car is much more practical.
Heathrow terminals and meet and greet
Heathrow's four terminals are in three places: 2 and 3 in the centre, 5 at the western end and 4 on the southern side. Tell us your terminal when you book. Your driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with a name board, and helps with your luggage. Should the flight run late, the driver adjusts and you pay nothing more.
Heathrow's drop-off charges
For your next trip, if someone drives you to Heathrow, they will pay £7 for each entry to a terminal drop-off zone, up from £6 in January 2026, with a strict ten-minute limit enforced by cameras. Overstaying brings an £80 penalty notice, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days. The Long Stay car park offers 30 minutes free with a shuttle bus. If you pre-book with us, it is included in the price you are quoted.
Gatwick is closer
For many flights, Gatwick is the more convenient airport from Lancing: about 35 miles away, with direct trains from Brighton and the coast. If your flight is from Gatwick instead, the booking form will give you a lower fixed price.
School term transfers
At the start and end of each term, Lancing College and other schools along the coast have pupils flying in and out of Heathrow. Parents often book transfers from abroad. Put the pupil's name and mobile number on the booking, and the driver will meet them with a name board. We can send the confirmation to both the parent and the school.
Families and holiday luggage
For families, an estate or MPV gives space for holiday luggage and pushchairs, and child seats are free. Give us the children's ages when you book.
Late arrivals
Long-haul flights often land at Heathrow in the evening, after the most convenient trains to the coast have gone. A pre-booked car is waiting whatever time you land, and the fixed fare is the same at night.
