Getting to Gatwick is something you plan days in advance. Getting home from it is usually an afterthought, until you are standing in arrivals at 11pm with two cases and a tired family. This page is about the trip home: from Gatwick back to Epsom, Ewell and the surrounding villages. A taxi from Gatwick Airport to Epsom costs from £59 for a saloon, fixed at booking, and the driver is waiting for you with your name on a board. If you are leaving Epsom for a flight, our guide to Epsom to Gatwick covers the outbound side.

What happens when you land

The moment your plane touches down, the driver knows, because we track the flight number you gave us. If you land early, they are already in the arrivals hall. If you are delayed, the pickup moves to your new landing time, and nothing changes on the price. After passport control and baggage reclaim, walk through to arrivals and look for your name on the board.

Gatwick asks private hire drivers to park in the short-stay car parks rather than on the forecourt, so there is a short walk to the car. The driver will push the trolley and load the bags. If you are held up in customs, give the driver a call on the number in your confirmation so they know.

The drive back to Epsom

From Gatwick, the driver heads north on the M23, then west on the M25 to junction 8 or 9. From junction 9 at Leatherhead, the A24 runs north into Epsom town centre. From junction 8, the A217 and the A240 come in over Epsom Downs. It is around 17 miles and 30 to 35 minutes when the roads are clear.

Late evening and night arrivals are usually the quickest, often under half an hour. Weekday rush hours on the M25 and around Leatherhead can make it 45 minutes or more.

Across Epsom and Ewell

We drop off across the borough: Epsom town centre and the Market Place, College Road and the area around Epsom College, Stamford Green and Epsom Common, the estates around Langley Vale on the Downs side, and Ewell Village, Ewell East, Stoneleigh and Worcester Park on the northern side. Epsom and St Helier hospital and the University for the Creative Arts campus on Ashley Road are also regular drop-offs.

If you are arriving to start a course at the University for the Creative Arts, or visiting family at one of the care homes in the area, tell us the building or entrance and the driver will take you there.

Race week and the Derby

The Derby Festival at Epsom Downs in early June is the biggest weekend of the year in the town. Roads around the Downs, Tattenham Corner and the A240 are busy or closed for hours. If you are landing that weekend, the driver will route around the closures and might come into Epsom from the north through Ewell. Tell us when you book so we can allow extra time.

The train from Gatwick to Epsom

There is no direct train. The usual routes involve a change at Redhill, East Croydon or Sutton, and take around 50 minutes to an hour and a quarter. Epsom station is in the town centre, so if you live close by and travel light, it is a fair option. If you live up on the Downs, in Ewell or out towards Langley Vale, you will need a bus or another taxi from the station.

For most people coming home with luggage, particularly families, the direct car is simpler. For three or four people, the fixed fare is often comparable to the train tickets.

Drop-off charges when you fly out

For your next trip, keep in mind that Gatwick has charged £10 for ten minutes in its forecourt drop-off zones since January 2026, rising by £1 a minute up to thirty minutes. If someone is driving you, the Long Stay car park allows two hours free with a shuttle bus. Our fixed fare already includes it, so there is nothing to pay at the kerb.

Choosing your car

A saloon takes up to four people with two large cases. For a family returning from a long holiday, an estate or MPV is the safer choice. If you have golf clubs, a pushchair or skis, mention them when you book.

Late arrivals are our busiest time

Many of the flights people take home to Epsom land late in the evening, especially in summer, when holiday flights from southern Europe arrive back after 10pm. That is exactly when the trains thin out and the connection at Redhill or East Croydon becomes a long wait on a cold platform. We run around the clock, the fare does not change at night, and your driver will be there however late you land. It is often the most appreciated part of the service.

What to have ready

When you book, give us your return flight number and terminal, your Epsom address with postcode, the number of passengers and large cases, and a mobile number that works abroad or as soon as you land. If you are bringing back more than you took out, let us know, and we can switch you to a bigger car.
