The routes in

The motorway route is often quicker for Orpington, Chislehurst and the south of the borough; the cross-country route suits Beckenham and the west.
Either way, it is around 25 miles and 45 to 55 minutes in normal traffic. The A232 through Croydon and West Wickham is slow at school run and rush hour times, and the A21 into Bromley town centre can back up in the late afternoon. Your driver will choose the route on the day.

Gatwick to Bromley by train
There is no direct train. The usual route is a fast train from Gatwick to East Croydon, then the tram to Beckenham Junction or a bus on to Bromley, or a train into London Victoria and then back out to Bromley South. Allow around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half.
For one person travelling light, that works and costs less. With holiday luggage, children or older relatives, the changes at East Croydon or Victoria are the hard part, and the door-to-door car is usually far easier. For three or four people, the fixed fare is often close to the combined train fares.
Gatwick drop-off charges and the free option
When you fly out again, and someone is driving you, they will meet Gatwick's forecourt charge: £10 for the first ten minutes outside either terminal, then £1 a minute up to a thirty-minute limit. It went up from £7 in January 2026, and cameras log every plate. The free Long Stay car park gives two hours free with a shuttle bus. Blue Badge holders are exempt.
