This page is about Sutton in West Sussex, not the London borough. Sutton RH20 is a small village at the foot of the South Downs, a few miles south of Petworth and west of Pulborough, with a pub, a church and lanes leading up into the hills. The RH20 postcode also covers Pulborough, Storrington, West Chiltington, Amberley and the villages around them. For long-haul flights, Heathrow is around 55 miles away. A taxi from Heathrow Airport to Sutton RH20 costs from £129 for a saloon, fixed at booking. If you meant the London borough, see our guide to Gatwick to Sutton, or enter your address for a fixed Heathrow price.
From Heathrow to the Downs
From Heathrow, the driver usually takes the M25 clockwise to junction 9 at Leatherhead, then the A24 south through Dorking to the edge of Horsham, then the A29 through Billingshurst to Pulborough. From Pulborough, the A283 and narrow lanes lead to Sutton and the villages under the Downs. Alternatively, the driver may take the A3 to Milford and the A283 through Petworth.
It is around 55 miles. Plan on an hour and ten to twenty minutes in normal traffic. The M25 around Heathrow and Leatherhead and the A24 through Dorking are the usual slow spots. The last few miles, on lanes, are slower than the mileage suggests.

Public transport from Heathrow
The nearest station is Pulborough, on the Arun Valley line. From Heathrow, the rail route usually means getting into London for a Southern train from Victoria, or taking the RailAir coach to Woking and changing twice. Expect around two and a half hours, plus a taxi from Pulborough to most villages. For anyone with luggage, the direct car is much simpler.
Heathrow terminals and meet and greet
Tell us your Heathrow terminal when you book: 2 and 3 are central, 5 is at the western end and 4 is on the southern side. A name board in the arrivals hall and live flight tracking come with every pickup. If you are delayed, the pickup moves at no extra cost.
Heathrow's drop-off charges
For your next departure, if someone drives you to Heathrow, every entry to a terminal drop-off zone has cost £7 since January 2026, with a ten-minute limit and an £80 penalty for overstaying, halved if paid within 14 days. The free option is the Long Stay car park, with 30 minutes free. With a pre-booked taxi, the fixed fare covers it.
Visitors to the South Downs
The South Downs National Park attracts walkers, cyclists and visitors from all over the world. Many stay in country pubs, B&Bs and holiday cottages around Sutton, Bignor and Amberley. If you are visiting, give us the accommodation name and the driver will take you to the door.
Timing your pickup for Heathrow
As a guide, leave RH20 around three and a half hours before a long-haul flight. For early departures, a pickup in the small hours means clear roads. When you book, we will recommend a pickup time based on your flight and terminal.
Families and older travellers
RH20 has many retired residents who fly long-haul to visit children and grandchildren abroad, and many families coming home from long trips. If you need a little extra help getting in and out of the car, space for a walking frame or a folding wheelchair, or simply more time at the door, add a note to your booking. Drivers are happy to help with luggage at both ends. For families, an estate or MPV gives room for holiday cases, and child seats are free.
What to tell us when you book
Give us your flight number and terminal, the property name and full postcode, directions or a what3words reference for rural homes, the number of passengers and cases, and a mobile number that works when you land. If you want to stop on the way, perhaps in Horsham or Billingshurst, add it as a stop and the fixed price includes it.
