CR9 is not a neighbourhood. It is Croydon's business postcode, used by large organisations, government offices and PO boxes around the town centre rather than by homes. If your destination has a CR9 postcode, you are almost certainly heading to an office, a government building or a company headquarters near East Croydon, Wellesley Road or Park Lane. A taxi from Heathrow Airport to CR9 costs from £69 for a saloon, fixed at booking, and we take you to the right entrance, not just the right street.
Why CR9 addresses need care
Because CR9 postcodes are assigned to organisations rather than streets, a satnav sometimes points to the sorting office or the centre of the postcode area, not the building you need. That can leave a visitor on the wrong side of the town centre with a suitcase. When you book, give us the organisation name, the building name and the street address as well as the postcode, and if you have been told to use a particular reception or visitor entrance, tell us. Our drivers know the town centre and will get you to the door.
Government and corporate buildings
The tall office blocks along Wellesley Road, around East Croydon station and on the edge of the old Whitgift Centre house a mix of government departments, financial firms and corporate offices. Several government buildings handle immigration, tax and other services, and receive many visitors, including people who have flown in for appointments. If you have an appointment at a set time, tell us when you book, and we will suggest a pickup time from Heathrow that leaves sensible margin for traffic.
The drive from Heathrow
The driver has two main options. The first is the M25 clockwise to junction 7, the M23, and the A23 north into Croydon. It is longer but usually reliable. The second is cross-country via Twickenham, Kingston and Sutton on the A316, A308 and A232. Both are around 21 miles. Expect 50 minutes to an hour in normal traffic, and longer on weekday evenings.
Corporate accounts
Many of the organisations based in CR9 book regular airport transfers for staff and visitors. A business account gives you monthly invoicing, cost centre codes and a reference for each journey, so expense claims and approvals are simpler. We can also set up recurring bookings, such as a weekly visitor pickup from Heathrow, at the same fixed fares. Our executive saloon and Mercedes V-Class suit visiting clients and senior staff.
Hotels near East Croydon
Business visitors staying overnight usually choose one of the hotels around East Croydon and Wellesley Road. If you are going to the hotel first and the office later, enter the hotel as your drop-off. We can take you to the office the next day, or collect you after your meeting and take you back to Heathrow.
Public transport from Heathrow
The quickest public transport route is the Elizabeth line into central London and Thameslink from Farringdon to East Croydon, which usually takes around an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half. The X26 express bus runs from Heathrow to West Croydon but takes longer. For a visitor with a small bag and a flexible schedule, either can work. For an appointment at a fixed time, or after a long-haul flight with luggage, the direct car is easier.
Heathrow terminals and drop-off charges
Tell us your terminal when you book: 2 and 3 are central, 5 is at the western end and 4 is on the southern side. The driver follows your flight and is waiting in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name. For your departure, if someone drives you to Heathrow privately, the terminal drop-off zones cost £7 for ten minutes since January 2026, with an £80 penalty for overstaying. With a pre-booked car, the fixed fare covers it.
Visitors from overseas
Many people heading to CR9 addresses are visiting from abroad for an appointment or a business meeting, and they may not know London. If you are booking on someone else's behalf, put their name and mobile number on the booking, and the driver will meet them in arrivals with a name board. We can also send the confirmation to you and to the passenger.
