Taxi from Gatwick Airport to Teddington

The route north

From Gatwick, the driver usually takes the M23 north and the M25 west to junction 10, then the A3 north to Kingston, and through Kingston and Hampton Wick into Teddington. Alternatively, the driver may leave the M25 at junction 9 and come up through Leatherhead, Chessington and Kingston on the A243. It is around 30 miles.

On a normal day, it takes 50 minutes to an hour. The M25 junction 10 at Wisley, the A3 at Tolworth and the Kingston one-way system are the usual slow spots. For late-night arrivals, it can be under 45 minutes.

Around Teddington

We drop off anywhere in TW11: the High Street and Broad Street, the roads around the station, the streets down to Teddington Lock and the river, and the area along the edge of Bushy Park. We also cover Hampton Wick, Strawberry Hill, Hampton Hill and Twickenham. Most residential roads have controlled parking during the day, but the driver will simply pull up, help with the bags and go.

Train from Gatwick to Teddington

There is no direct train. The usual route is a train to Clapham Junction, then a South Western Railway service on the Kingston loop to Teddington. With a good connection, it takes around an hour and a quarter. For a solo traveller with light luggage, that works and costs less.

With holiday luggage, children or a late landing, the change at Clapham Junction is the hard part, with stairs and crowded platforms. The car door to door is much easier, and for three or four people the fixed fare is often close to the combined train fares.

Gatwick's drop-off charges

For your next flight from Gatwick, if someone is driving you, they should know that Gatwick has charged £10 for the first ten minutes in its forecourt drop-off zones since January 2026, then £1 a minute up to thirty minutes. Cameras log the plate, and payment is due online by midnight the next day, with a £100 penalty for missing it. The free option is the Long Stay car park, which allows up to two hours with a shuttle bus. None of that applies to a pre-booked transfer, because the fare already covers it.

Meet and greet

Your driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals with a name board. After you collect your bags, they walk you to the car in the short-stay car park. Delays move the pickup time automatically, at no cost to you. Tell us whether you land at North or South Terminal.

Heading to Gatwick from Teddington

The same fixed fare applies in reverse. As a guide, leave Teddington around two and a half hours before a short-haul flight and three hours before long-haul. For early flights, a pickup around 3.30am or 4am means a clear run round the M25.

Families and luggage

Holiday flights mean holiday luggage. A saloon takes two large cases; an estate takes four; an MPV takes a family of six with bags. Child seats are free.

Twickenham event days

Teddington is close to Twickenham Stadium, and on rugby match and concert days the roads around Twickenham and the A316 are very busy. If you are flying in on an event day, the driver will avoid the stadium area and come in from Kingston.

Booking for visitors

If you are booking a car for a relative or guest arriving at Gatwick, put their name and mobile number on the booking. The driver will meet them in arrivals with a name board and bring them to your door in Teddington. We will send the confirmation to you.

Late arrivals

Many holiday flights land at Gatwick late in the evening, when trains via Clapham Junction are less frequent. A pre-booked car is waiting whatever time you land, and the fixed fare is the same at night.
