Teddington is one of the closest parts of south-west London to Heathrow, a riverside town between Twickenham and Kingston, with Bushy Park on one side and the Thames on the other. Teddington Lock marks the point where the river stops being tidal. The airport is about eight miles away, and the drive is short. A taxi from Heathrow Airport to Teddington costs from £39 for a saloon, fixed at booking, and takes 20 to 25 minutes.
A short run south
From Heathrow, the driver usually heads south past Hatton Cross and Feltham on the A312 and the A311, through Hampton Hill and into Teddington along the High Street. For Terminal 5, the route may start along the Southern Perimeter Road. It is about eight miles.
In normal traffic, it takes 20 to 25 minutes. The A316 and the roads around Twickenham are busy at rush hour, and on Twickenham Stadium event days, the area is congested, so the driver will avoid it. For late-night arrivals, the trip is often under 20 minutes.
Around Teddington and TW11
TW11 covers Teddington town centre and the High Street, the roads around the station and Broad Street, the streets down to the river and Teddington Lock, and the area around Bushy Park. It also includes the edges of Hampton Wick and Strawberry Hill. Teddington is home to the National Physical Laboratory, which has many international visitors, and to several schools.
Most residential streets have controlled parking during the day, which does not affect a drop-off. The High Street is busy, so if you live in a flat above a shop, tell us the nearest side road.
Bus or taxi?
The X26 express bus links Teddington with Heathrow Central, running between Croydon and the airport via Kingston and Teddington, and it takes around half an hour. The 285 local bus also runs towards Heathrow. For a solo traveller with a small bag, either is cheap and convenient.
For families with luggage, early or late flights, or a home a walk from the bus stop, the car is easier. The fixed fare for a short run like this is modest, and it takes you door to door.
Short trips and the minimum fare
Short airport runs have a minimum fare because the work involved goes beyond the miles. Your driver parks at Heathrow, meets you in arrivals and waits while you clear passport control and collect bags, and airport charges apply. You get a fixed price, agreed in advance, instead of a meter ticking while you wait.
Heathrow's drop-off charges
For your next departure, if someone drives you to Heathrow, every entry to a terminal drop-off zone has cost £7 since January 2026, with a ten-minute limit enforced by cameras. Overstaying brings an £80 penalty notice, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days. The free option is the Long Stay car park, with 30 minutes free and a shuttle bus. Book a taxi with us and that charge is already in the fixed fare.
Meet and greet
Your driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals with a name board at your terminal. Heathrow's four terminals are spread across three sites, so tell us which one when you book. Delays move the pickup time automatically, at no cost to you.
Visitors to the National Physical Laboratory
Scientists and engineers come from all over the world to work with the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington. If you are visiting, give us the reception you need, and we can invoice your organisation directly with a reference for each journey.
Rowing, the river and the riverside pubs
Teddington has a strong rowing and sailing tradition, with clubs along the river, and the area around the lock and the footbridges is a favourite with walkers. If you are visiting and staying at one of the riverside hotels or guest houses, give us the name and the driver will take you to the door, even on the narrow lanes near the water.
Booking for guests
If you are booking for a guest or a visiting colleague, put their name and mobile number on the booking. The driver will meet them in arrivals with a name board, and the confirmation will come to you.
